Named for John Carver, the first elected leader of the Plymouth Colony. Carver is located between Boston and Cape Cod, in the heart of the Old Colony Region. It is located 38 miles south of Boston. The major highways are Route 3 and I495, which give access to the airport, port, and intermodal facilities of the Greater Boston Region. There is commuter rail access from both the Middleboro and Plymouth lines allows a comfortable ride into South Station, Boston.
For a small town, Carver has many attractions and scenic areas. Myles Standish State Forest which allows camping and has freshwater ponds for fishing and swimming. It is open year round. Carver also has many bogs which draw a lot of attention during harvest time. There's also Edaville Railroad, which will opens in May and where you can ride the rails on vintage passenger cars pulled by steam or diesel locomotives. They also have a wonderful "Festival of Lights" around Christmas time. Another popular attraction is King Richard's Faire, Massachusetts' largest Renaissance fair, which is open on weekends throughout September and October.
